Do you think I'm Real?

I collapse in the middle of a street and two people stand atop me to share a handshake and "How are you?" They've never hurt me though. My fishing line gets tangled with the others beside mine and fish bite all them but mine. I'm still well fed though. I told a joke I knew was bad and left stage right before a standing ovation for the next man coming out from the curtains. I wasn't insulted though. Am I real? I've failed so many times, yet nothing happens. Could I be dead? No, I'm still watched. Could I be hated? No, people still speak. Could I be liked, successful? Never, I'm not real. Well, if I weren't real I couldn't affect anything. I can disrupt, that's for certain. I'm very good at that. I can stand and break their contact. I can tug and give the fish a chance for freedom. I can walk back on stage and keep trying.

Trying? That's barely gotten me anywhere. Who cares if I try besides me? Who cares if I'm successful besides me? Who cares if I'm real besides me? Does it matter I try? I could always leave. But no, fleeting pleasures are addictive, aren't they? So I can give up. No, I've made promises, haven't I. I could die and become unreal. Hell no, I want to awake from dreams. For my own desires. I wish I could live for myself.

But no. Perhaps that's too good to wish for. As bells toll higher and higher and reset to one, where will I be once it never rings again. Will I be satisfied will what I've done? Will I witness it with others? Will I contradict myself?
